And why cant " THOSE " arabs do so??!!...arabs are'nt still riding camels in th desert anymore...

many outstanding buildings are now built in the Middle East..recently the Faisalia complex in Saudi Arabia dsigned by Norman Foster...

agreed.

 

perhaps your post came out more predudiced and condesending than you meant it to.

 

"those arabs" build wonderfull architecture imo. maybe you should have posted this thread to discuss the architecture rather than start off by slanting it ;)

The two are not mutually exclusive, Arabs can build great structures AND ride camels in the desert. I would hate to think that 'modernizing' means the complete loss of traditional ways of life. To have that greatly reduces the value of the 'improvements'.

 

I also suspect that we have a mis-reading of 'those' as a modifier. Using a modifier before a proper noun seems to have a demeaning effect, but it is one of the subtlties of English that is going to be hard to learn without much exposure to the language. In other words, I doubt that the posts meant to be demeaning by their phrasing.

that would be an interesting thread Strat..but i was just commnting on the way the post was phrased...get what i mean?..the " those " thing...i do agree with Ernest point of view..
