Gander0
I'm thinking again about buying a new workstation and am wondering if I can salvage anything from my current workstation before it becomes a rendernode. I have a quadro fx3700 and was wondering if it would be cost effective option to get another one to use in sli configuration? Does anyone know if this would be worth doing or should I just start from scratch? Many thanks in advance
Jeff Mottle
While I did not do any SLI testing in our review here: http://www.cgarchitect.com/news/Reviews/Review076_1.asp I would be curious to know if anyone else has experience to see how well SLI works in MAX. I found that MAX is probably one of the worst programmed apps in the 3d industry for viewport performance due to it being very CPU bound. It does not scale well as the car performance increases, but I would be very curious to know if SLI does much. My hunch is no, but I can't say definitively. AJLynn
Other users have tried it and reported almost no improvement - I don't have links off the top of my head, but I also don't remember anybody doing it on the newest version. "SLI doesn't help Max" has become a sort of conventional wisdom - which means it would be nice to check on it.
Gander0
Thanks for your replies and thanks for that link Jeff. I knew you were going to do some testing but didn't know were the results were. As Max is my main app, it sounds like this won't be worth the investment and that I should either stick with my FX3700 or possibly buy a FX3800. If anyone else has tried any of these cards SLI'd however then it would be good to know.
