heni30
Hi, What are some ways to get a soft image glow once you have the final image? I did a search and didn't get any relevant leads. Thanks, George
Camby1298
Depends on your render engine. If your using mr, I would look into the Glare Shader. If youre asking on how to do it in post. If youre using photoshop, look to Diffuse Glow Filter. And there are planty of tutorials on the web concerning how to get a soft glow: http://www.evermotion.org/tutorials/show/7817/3dsmax-vray-volume-effect for starters.... Claudio Branch
I use alot of glow in my post work on renderings and especially photography. The Diffuse Glow filter is quite effective, but it requires restraint. Glow is usually the last thing I apply to my images. I make a copy of the final image and apply the Diffuse Glow filter. Then I place the original image on top with a mask and selectively paint in glow where I really want it to be. Sometimes I also create a new layer and use paint in pure white at say 10% where I need more "light spill." Here is an image I created using the technique:
heni30
Someone gave me this suggestion but I don't quite understand it: "for the glow effect, i make in fusion using soft glow effect, pump up the gain using only the BLUE channel.... " What is fusion?

Fooch
A quick cheat in photoshop would be to duplicate your final image, gausian blur it and set it to either softlight/overlay or screen. Then add a layer mask, invert it so its all black (the mask) and paint in your glowy edges. I tend to colourise that layer as well to crunch it to a tone. f
heni30
Thanks! The tricks that come from being in the trenches are the best ones! 1. What advantages would this have over diffuse glow? 2. Do you have a sample jpg using the technique? Thanks.
