yohozindagi1
Well I am using 3ds max 2011 with XP x64 and when i render a scene ... i checked the task manager now and then ..... the computer is using only 3 GB ram where as I computer has 6 GB ram ..... Is it possible to make use of more than 3 gb ram ? If yes then will using more ram render my scene faster ? Help guys
Camby1298
Perhaps your scene only requires to use 3gb of RAM. Whether Max is using 100% of your CPU is what to be concerned about; that will affect render times. I have 12 gb of RAM on my machine, and some scenes will only use 6 gb when rendering. Depends on the amount of geometry in your scene.
yohozindagi1
Thanks for the reply. Well I check task manager every time I render any scene of every project and in every case i found it was using only 3 GB ram. May be is there something to do with vray settings ? Crazy Homeless Guy
Are you using a 32bit or 64bit version of Max?

cgrant3d
There's no setting in Max that says "don't use more than X amount of memory". There is a VRay dynamic memory setting that'd be relevant if you're instancing millions of objects (ie forests, hordes of people, grass, etc) but wouldn't help otherwise... Since you're on 64 bit Max will use every bit of RAM that it needs but not a megabyte more than that. It's a common misconception that if you throw more RAM at a problem it'll go faster - that's not the case. You could add another 100GB of RAM to your machine but if your files only need 3GB that's all they'll take.
Nic H
put more geometry and textures in your scene. displacement will also use lots of ram. try rendering huge images
