branskyj
Well, the two Palit 460s are working great. During full load in Octane (which equals FurMark in terms of GPU stress) the temps got up to 67 Celsius (GPU 1) and 62 Celsius (GPU 2). Much shorter than my previous GTX 275 and really quiet. In fact so quiet I can not hear them next to each other when not under load. When under load- there is sound coming out but it's not anything obstructing. I am waiting now for the GTX 460 fix in the new CUDA 3.2 (hopefully) which will enable all of the available CUDA cores on the GTX 460 to operate (at the moment not all of them are recognised). On a side note- although my Palit 460s seem to be a really good choice (plenty outputs on the card, low temperatures, low power consumption, 2GB VRAM, CUDA capabilities and other) I have to say they don't come close to my previous MSI GTX 275 Lighting 1.79GB VRAM in terms of build quality. Their casing comprises of a plastic cover which I did not like since the beginning. It just feels cheap. But hey- so is the card (£190.00 each) and as long as the temps are low I'll be OK. Cheers. tecton3d
I'd monitor temps very closely, especially when the CUDA 3.2 fix comes out that opens up the remaining cores of the 460 for Octane. If temps start getting dangerous, and when they're out on the market, I'd pick up an aftermarket VGA cooler... rendering on the GPU is very punishing and I reason it would be quite wise to keep temps as low as possible. $40 spent on a cooler might save a cooked card. that's interesting about the build quality. The card honestly looks a little awkward with the giant plastic shroud covering the heat sink and fan but hey, like you said, for 190e, Fermi, and 2gb Vram, I'll take it
