mbr
I'd like to know, too, as I've been considering upgrading to Max 6, finally, but if 7 is only a few months away...
Jeff Mottle
As a new 3dsmax version has released in the timeframe spanning from SIGGRAPH to Xmas for as long as I can remember, I'd say it's pretty safe to assume MAX 7 is coming in a few months. Ricardo Eloy
Yes, I believe it's pretty safe to assume that, too. Also, I'd expect some good stuff with this new release...
Brian Cassil
So does this mean that we will already have incompatability between the latest releases of max and viz again?
Ricardo Eloy
Not necessarily. The incompatibility is caused by the different versions of the compilers used to write the program. I may be saying something really stupid now, but as far as I remember this is more a MS related side effect than a Max problem.
voltaire_ira
Hi, I just checked with my contact at Discreet, and max 7 will be coming out for beta test in the second week of July. No word on a final release date, but I know that the beta has been sliding from month to month. Hopefully it is on-track for the fall! Jennifer www.4dArtists.com www.Render-Art.com hi, is there any way that we could get a copy for beta testing? i would like to be part of the beta testers..is there any requirements? our university here offers 3ds max for architecture students. we just upgraded to max 6. i would like to know know the differences between versions so that we can update if necessary. since our university is an ATC (authorized training center), we are obliged to be updated. Kroke
I try to click the link and it says I don't have privellages even though I'm registered under that board. What gives?

It has nothing to do with any forum settings, as I just took a look at your profile and everything seems to be in order.
Jim Mann
Max 7 already? I couldn't help noticing that although a new version does seem to appear between Siggraph and Christmas, it has been getting later each year. Max 4 seemed to appear round about August time, Max 5 in the Sept/Oct the following year and the Max 6 came out at the end of November as far as I can recall. Max 7 for new year? There has only been 1 extension for Max 6 so far, the not entirely useful file linking extension. By this phase in Max 5 we were already had a lot of the features of v6. Guess now that they have us, discreet (or rather Autodesk) can't be bothered as it doesn't make for interesting press releases. I'm still not convinced that it was worthwhile upgrading from 5 to 6 and given the amount of plug-ins that I depend on nowadays there would have to be something really good for arch-viz in v7 to tempt me. Jennifer
I get that error, too, and can't find the message he refers to.
pixelperfectg
Apparantly, we aren't allowed to discuss that max7 thread at CGtalk.....It may have been an "uh-oh" slip on the announcment? http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=152003 I wish it weren't so "hush-hush"..I'd like to know what's in store so I can properly evaluate whether or not I want to renew my subscription program.
