Independent UVW map on instanced object

Many thanks for your replies.

 

Brian, I wanted to keep the base geometry instanced which I don't think I can do with the make unique toggle.

 

Peter, Thanks for your solution. I was hoping for a single unique UVW in the stack but this should do the trick

there is a way - right click at the top of your modifier stack and click 'make reference'. You can now drop a unique UVW modifier (or any other modifier) onto that object without it affecting the other instances. Anything below the line in the stack where you make your reference will still affect the other instanced objects, so you can add an edit poly modifier for example to tweak the geometry whilst retaining a unique uvw on top.
