daylight system north point?

Hi all

just doing some shadow diagrams and was wondering about the north point using the 3ds max daylight system. What does the compass north point indicate? true north or magnetic?

as magnetic north varies, and has less of a direct relationship with the sun - i assume it represents true north. just a guess.
