Devin Johnston
I'm running Max 2011 and Vray 1.5 SP5 with BB 2008.1.1 and I'm having an issue with machines not rendering jobs. The job will start normally, these machines will pick up and start rendering but at some point during the process they stop rendering and just sit idol. There isn't any error associated with them stopping they just stop, I've tried resetting them for the selected job, removing and adding them back to the job with no effect, even if you reboot the machine when it comes back online it just sits there idol and won't pick back up. This happens with animations and renderings and it's really becomming a problem because over the course of a weekend I could loose 10 or 15 machines this way with no way of getting them back. Is this a bug or possibly something else?
Crazy Homeless Guy
I used to have this problem frequently, but not much anymore, so I am of no use in what the actual problem was. But do the machines pick back up if you right click on them, and tick "Reset Server Index?"
Devin Johnston
No that has no effect, I don't know what to do about this other than try to contact Autodesk.
Dave Buchhofer
Maybe a shot in the dark since I haven't had this problem in a while, but do you have max installed on the manager machine? in the past I've had a lot of strange issues because of running an older max/bb on the server than on the client machines. Matt McDonald
Kind of a long shot but these don't happen to be Windows 7 machines are they? If so, the machines might be going in to standby. For some crazy reason if a Windows 7 machine is configured to go into stanby and you are rendering via backburner (even though the thing is going nuts trying to crank out frames) it will shut down. Its a major pain in the butt. This is new to Windows 7 as far as I can tell, maybe Vista (I never had a copy) but definitely not XP.
Devin Johnston
The manager is running the same version of BB as the farm and all the machines on the farm are running XP64.
Dave Buchhofer
If you find an answer post it up, we used to get that a LOT. then one day it just stopped for no discernible reason. Take a look at the max.log backburner.log and vraylog? the max.log used to be very helpful for troubleshooting in the past
