Importing Mechanical Desktop 2009 Models into 3DSMax 2010

Can anyone please offer advice as to how to import AutoCAD Mechanical Desktop 2009 Models into 3DSMax 2010.

 

Once upon a time MD had an export to 3DS option but not in the latest version.

 

I have tried exporting to Inventor 2009. Then using the AEC option to produce an AutoCAD 2007.dwg solid.

 

But when this is imported into 3DS Max, circles are facetted regardless of the viewres settings adopted originally in MD.

 

 

I have tried applying a TurboSmooth modifier in 3DSMax but this simply distorts the models.

 

 

I have also tried exploding my models in MD to revert them to 3D solids as one used to be able to, but they simple disappear into the ether. Hence the Inventor routine.

 

Help please!
