couch and coffee table look small, or at least vertical scale is screwy

humm yeah, looking at it again the sofa, does look a bit too low, but if you compare most sofas to chair height, they are lower. Maybe i should make it i touch bigger and increase the height of the coffee table.

very good one, just a couple of things: phone and cups are too small, should be scaled to fit the rest of the furniture. your glass looks a bit too reflective to me, especially the left window's one (i know it depends on the visual angle, but yet it's a bit too much). it looks more like a mirror and it's not reflecting what is supposed to be out of the window.

I think it is great image and great work.

it is live and very good atmosphere- bravo :)

but I do agree that it lacks something. I looked at it long to find out...

I guess it is because lack of surface/area shadows at some places giving a flat look at some places.

to handle this problem (if you are using vray) you need to tweak your irradience map settings and subdivisions of vray shadows.

and why are the shadows of the shutter solid?

The scale of your furniture looks way off to me! The table top should be 29 inches from the floor. Unless this room is for "little people" I would give everything a very serious look for proper scale. The atmosphere of the room is nice. The textures are also done well.

Modelled in 3ds Max6, and rendered with Vray.

render time is about 1.5hrs at 1500px, and the irradence map takes 3-4hrs to produce.

Total poly count is 458,000.

Err...as for a brief synopsis, I modelled the basic shell ply modelling. See my site for a tutorial. Then it was a case of just filling it up with furntiure.

It actually started out as a designer apartment, but then I decided to make it a bit more interesting and try and get some atmosphere into the scene.

Lighting is really simple. One direct sun, and a vray skylight turned on. Then the rest is the GI. Im starting to understand the Vray materials a bit better these days. Putting glossy reflections on objects gets a accurate specular, not like the pants standard max shader.

nice work man!..99+..excellent!!

but i would like to comment on your wall elements, i thnk its better you remove the photoframe below the wall lamp, it seems not balance...

for giraffe: about the shutter, shadows should be solid because the inclination(angle) is perpendicular to the sunlight, its correct..

Thanks ipdesigner and AtomicZA.

Im not convinced about the picture frame in the centre either. But I have put this to bed now. So its done and dusted. Overall im happy with it. I would go back and change a few things. But I hate going over new ground. I need to find a new project. I might try modelling the exterior. The only problem I have with exteriors is that they arnt as fun to do.

Seeing the exterior would be cool. I've been going through your tutorials from your web site re radiosity. They have helped a lot in my understanding of it.

I mainly use brazil and sometimes light tracer for products, but I want to look at radiosity.
