Buffalo Bills
Hello everyone, I need some crtiques on this room. It looks a little flat to me and I think it might be my settings. I use Viz4 Radiosity solution is 90%. I'm using regathering for my rendering. brightness is set at 60% and contrast is 50%. All my lights are photometric lights from viz. Would like to hear from you. Thanks.
cHuSkE
Nice. Althought this is a night shot ,I think a bit of light near the windows would help. Working on walls and armchairs texturing also will help . How long is rendering? is it for animation?
Buffalo Bills
cHuSkE, Thanks. 3 hours for rendering. I can see about putting some sunlight. And the textures, I can work on those as well. The furniture texture is like a felt material. If someone has a good idea on how to make it look like felt material I would be glad to take suggestions. Also it is just going to be a still image. No animations for this. Thanks for the critiques.
chuck
I really think the image is too dark over all. You could adjust that in the exposure control, just don't over do it. I would think some more contrast would help too. You are also getting some artifacts that could probably be taken care of with higher radiosity settings. How many iterations have been refined and how much filtering is applied? Also take a look at the mesh size and the amount of rays per sample. Generally I use: initial quality 85 refine iterations 5 (all objects) filtering 5 mesh size 1' rays per sample 300 This seems to clean up the radiosity solution to an acceptable level. I've never rendered felt, but it shouldnt be too far off regular fabric. Hope this helps, now lets see another pic! Chuck
Ricardo Eloy
The scene looks dark, indeed. But maybe it has nothing to do with radiosity. We often come accross projects with less than 0 information about lighting. In this case, I think the recessed lights are too weak, and you have not enough light sources (I know you're probably using the light sources the architect gave you, but still looks like they're not enough to light this room). Buffalo Bills
Chuck: Here are my settings: Initial quality 90 No refine iterations because in the book is says it isn't required when you use the regathering tool. But maybe I can see if it helps. Filtering 1 - I find if I go to high with this setting you start losing quality. Mesh size 1' Rays per sample 150. I have gone with a higher setting and it doesn't seem to have much of an effect. But again I can try. I'm sure every room you create will have a different effect. I will try to post a new image for tomorrow. Rick: I believe everyone is correct about the lighting levels. I will try to set my settings for the recessed lights a little higher. Right now they are the default 75 watt recessed photometric lights used in Viz. I will also try to light up the room with some sunlight. Thanks for the critiques... mbr
Yup, crank up that soffit lighting! If you look at pics of uplighting like that, it will usually be a bright white. It has to it the ceiling and reflect down, so it needs to be strong. Make it glow! I think that will be enough, assume the bounces are high enough (maybe try cranking that up? Don't know, I don't use rad).
Buffalo Bills
Thanks MBR. Yeah it does cove lighting does look a little on the dim side. So I will work on that as well. I will try to post something shortly.
