doniv
Hi, I am new to max and I seem to have lost my way in max. I find myself tangled in UVW maps or more so in applying textures/materials to objects. Can anyone suggest a step by step tutorial for beginners like me , I have tried the tutorials which i could get my hands on from the net (involving Vray and photoshop for materials) the steps involved are (1) confusing , (2) not clear to me and this is where I landed myself 'confused....'. I have already work on a tutorial which involves max an vray and the output was decent enough but some how when I want to learn more I seem to be stuck. Please can some one suggest tutorials which will help me... I use 3ds max 2008, Vray1.5 sp 1, photoshop cs2 and am new to all the three. I appreciate your response . IceAged
Have a look for Ted Boardman's tutorials. They won't necessarily help you to produce realistic renders by today's standards, but they'll get you started with the basic info that you need. nelpiper
I really don´t want to run you down but all three are beast on their on and even worse if you want to learn them together at once. But if that´s your wish I´d recommend deke mcclelland´s training on lynda.com, that´s a champ. On MAX, i´d say 3DBUZZ and 3D Palace. On Vray, Evermotion is the best place although I´d eat the Vray manual as well. Hope it helps. Good luck.
Andrew1
I´d eat the Vray manual as well. Hope it helps. Good luck. lol that's funny .... If that helped I would consume every book out there in relation to 3D lol to your question... best thing is start from a box and unwrap it using different methods, learn to unwrap and use uvw mapping modifier..... In photoshop it should be simple , size and textures is your key, Best thing is trying and observing the results , you will learn on your own while you at it, and you will retain more from your own experimentation.... Video Tutorials would be great of course and believe me there is tons of them out there... best of luck to you , cheers !
Thablanch
As suggested by Brian, the tutorials shipped with Max should be your first reference. There is also one tutorial out there: http://www.3dtotal.com/ffa/tutorials/max/joanofarc/joanmenu.php This is like the Bible of basic 3d stuff, modeling, texturing and mapping. The section about UVW maps and unwrap is really nice. Worth taking a look at this.
