Roodogg
I have a MAX scene (exported as dxf from sketchup 7 and imported into max 2010). There seems to be a weird hierarchy that means every time i move a mesh (sofa, light fitting etc) it moves other objects in the same way! Typically, when i create a scene with instanced objects, they only instance each other at subobject level (when i move verts / edges / faces etc, it does the same to instanced meshes) though this imported scene is moving whole meshes. Also, there are books on a bookshelf that when i move, move others, but in a sort of ascending distance. (ie if i move one by 10mm, the next will move by 20mm, the third 30mm and so on. When I select an object and hit 'unlink selection', the other objects disappear! I believe this is some sort of hierarchial thing that has come from the sketchup model. Basically, I want to get rid of it. Is this common, what is the fix??? Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!
dande
Check that the objects are on different layers in sketchup. If they are all on the 1 layer max will bring them in as a single object. You are better off importing the sketchup file directly in Max instead of using dxf. dxf is an old format and you are better off not using it. Roodogg
Thanks dande, I haven't got a subsciption and that s the only way to get the plugin for skp import into max. The objects are definitely seperate objects though are in parent child hierarchies. This seems to be the problem as I can't unlink them without some objects disappearing. My main issue is not being able to group sections for ease of scene manipulation.

dande
Try exporting it as dwg. Then import it.
