frank1331
Over the years, and at a fairly significant cost, I have assembeled a good sized RPC collection for use in Max as well as Photoshop. Having upgraded to newer versions of both Max and Photoshop, I assumed that RPC could be inserted. The plug-ins for this used to be free. Now they are subscription based. So it appers my RPC collection is useless unless I subscribe to the plug-ins. Does any one know of an alternate method of getting these into renderings (both Max and Pshop)
Devin Johnston
Nope your out of luck now that they've gone to subscription, believe me when I found out I swore I'd never use them again and I haven't. Check out AXYZdesign.com, they aren't like RPC in that they aren't pictures of people they are geometric models with maps. Most of them are of moderate quality and are good for mid to far viewing but they do have a new line that is HD and look really good plus they can all be animated if you buy the right collection. Crazy Homeless Guy
We gave up our RPC subscription because we simply were not using it. The people are stiff, most are low res, and several have odd color tones. We now do most of our background people by mapping them to a 2d plane, and setting the plane to look at a dummy object that is then placed in accordance with the active camera. It works quite well, and gives us a tremendous amount of flexibility on making sure we have the appropriate people for the appropriate scenes. You loose the move around aspects of RPC and AXYZ, but gain in the shear amount of people libraries available, or you could just take your own and use them. We also use AXYZ, but have not used them as often since implementing the 2d planes as the method for background peeps.
Chad Warner
An alternative to CHG's method of mapping the 2d objects to a plane is to use itoosoft's forest plugin. There's a "planes" object that lets you do the same thing, but it's set up to be somewhat automated. It works quite well.
Justin Hunt
We kept our subscription, mainly because of legacy projects that crop up often. My biggest grip is that every year when its time to renew its never been a simple matter of paying and away we go. It ends up with weeks of back and forth service requests, re-installs and watnot. Every year we curse but eventually get it running again and then forgetting about it until next year. The marlin studio RPC's look better, at least the walking people anyway. Iv'e not looked into it yet but what about RPC's youve created yourself with the RPC creator? Are they tied into the licence subscription? jhv
Crazy Homeless Guy
The one collection that I do think is good in RPC's is their high res tree collection. It is a soild collection compared to other tree images I have used, though I haven't looked to see what the 2d collections of the last few years have to offer. But out of all their collections on the yearly pass, those are the only ones I will recommend. Chad.. for some reason I have never built their plugins into workflows. Maybe I should look further into them...?
