pablo scapi
Hello: I have build my own WS a few months ago. I decided to go with a RAID 1+0 setup with 4 750 GB Segate disks. The problem is that once in a while, one of the disk fall of the array and appears to be dagrade, i then have to mark it as normal state in the intel matrix storage console and it starts to rebuild the array with no loss of information. But this is time consuming and when the problem happens the system won´t respond for some minutes. I am really frustated with this situation since the idea of this setup is to be both fast and secure. The question is, should i just unmount the setup and go for simple disk, maybe with a software auto back up between 2 disks. Or maybe would be better to use a simple strip setup for safe data storage, would this stop the problem? BTW, i´m usin an asus P6T MB and the raid controlers of the board. In case of wanting to unmount the raid setup, how i can do it? right now the data is splited between 2 disks, do i have to copy all the data to another disk or is there an easy-automted way? thank you
luckytohaveher
If it is a boot partition you will likely need to reinstall due to disk driver issues. Otherwise, you can copy the data to any other medium (another hard drive?) and just change the raid and partition as needed. I have a similar chip and driver configuration with a Raid-1. I too have had the same problem with rebuilding, marking, and error checking. I believe the problem is related to dirty shutdowns. Also, I had a disk go bad and it needed a flash upgrade and a format. After that, you should not have as many problems. I have had other Raid cards and disk configurations in the past without this much trouble. I believe the Intel Raid driver is a little sensitive to rebuild, error-checking, and marking. It really should be a little more intelligent. Good luck!
