Peter M. Gruhn
I have a downtown area. Roughly 4000' on a side. I'm trying to model the tree canopy by displacing a plane. The map is good enough. It works fine on small test models. But at actual size there is nothing. It looks flat. The best reason I can figure out is that MR displacement is locked to no more than a few inches. I've been working with parameters in Renderer: Shadows & Displacement; and in Special Purpose Maps: Displacement. Am I missing a set of controls somewhere? This implies "oh, no... you can't use displacement to throw up a mountain range" which strikes me as wrong. So I must be missing something. Clues? - g
JustinTuaylou
Are you using the "displace" modifier, or putting the displacement map in the material editor and applying the "(WSM) displacement" modifier? Justin
jinsley
Justin is on the right track... I have used a high density mesh, with displacement modifier and then simply mapped my diffuse, etc... with an alpha to it. worked great for aerials and distant shots...
