Nekoh
Hey people, I wanted to finally build a pc after burning this one out after 6 years of use. Not great but did what it did I suppose. I used the stickied thread at the top to try a build a pc and they look great but when converting from newegg to overclockers the price is almost the same in £. I only have a budget of about £450~ but I know someone here would be able to make something decent for that price. I mainly use C4D and photoshop along with music, movies and browsing. The one I have now does the trick fine, although fairly slow, and this is a 6 year old machine. If you need any more details just ask as I know nothing about computers really. AJLynn
All I know about the UK market is that scan.co.uk is popular. Have a look at 3datstech.com for workstation builds of various budgets. If you can get a i5 quad core in your budget that would work, and a Radeon 5000-series video card (they do very well in C4D, my Radeon 5750 on my i5 blows much more expensive nVidia options out of the water in Cinebench) and I'm going to go against my usual advise and say that on your budget it's okay to get a cheap case. Paul Twyman
Novatech http://www.novatech.co.uk is another possibility when it comes to parts. They do prebuilt motherboard bundles and barebones systems as well which might be an option if you don't want to mess with motherboards and processors on your first build. Nekoh
Thanks for the links guys. I'll have a little look at them later. Just a little more info for anyone that is going to build one for me, I don't need an OS or keyboard or mouse or anything just the basic bundle and optical drive. Nekoh
I've found this and it seems like a decent price. Intel Core i5 760 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz Intel H55 Motherboard ATX Black Gaming Case & 750w PSU Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB 16MB Cache Sony AD-7241S Lightscribe 24X GeForce GT 240 1GB GDDR2 VGA/DVI PCI-Express £486.93 Is that good for the price or should I look for something else? My computer is definitely getting ready to pack up. It's making some horrible noises.
AJLynn
That's actually a quite low power system - if you can get a decent case and 500W power supply for less, do that. What kind of deal did you find on the Geforce 240? Like I said, I don't know UK prices, but if you can make it a DirectX 11 card like a Radeon 5750 or Geforce 450 (that's a tossup, the ATI is faster and uses 20W less power under load but maybe you want to use iray or something on the nVidia) that would be a good thing, and the 240 is a bit pathetic. BTW, your spec is a lot like mine and I think it's very well cost/benefit optimized. Yours is less expensive than mine would be if I were to put it together right now. Nekoh
I don't really know much about computers at all really. I found all the stuff from novatech and the geforce was £56 and the case came in the bundle along with the Intel Core i5 760, 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz and Intel H55 Motherboard. I don't think I would be able to get any better parts as £500 is as high as I can go at the moment. This sort of stuff confuses me so much. I don't know what stuff works with what and what is good when using cinema4d//3dsmax/photoshop etc. Edited September 25, 2010 by Nekoh
AJLynn
Just do it, then. It will be fine.
Paul Twyman
Sorry don't want to confuse things but did you see this pre built system on there (only had a quick look) http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/pc/range/novatechxfire.html I know it's £568 but you get the radion 5750 card and a quad core processor (amd though?) Maybe if you phoned them and said you don't need the mouse keyboard it could get it slightly closer to £500. I think they build them all on site and they are normally pretty helpful so they might be able to help you out. Just think whichever one you get is gonna be better than what you have now especially if it is about to die. Good luck, hope you enjoy whatever you decide. Nekoh
Thanks for that link to the pre-built system but that is without VAT, with VAT the price is £690. I think I'll end up getting the first bundle I picked and have someone put it together for me.
Paul Twyman
Ahh, didn't see that. Don't you just hate it when that happens. Cool go for it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
