Rationalisation

Hello

We have decided to rationalise our system of Archicad at work so everyone works from the same song sheet as it were...genius hey!

So we want to use the same pen weights, with the same lines types and the same layers and the same settings for things like dimensions, labels, section lines and so on and so on.

As you can imagine there's quite a list to go through, so yes I'm on the blag to see if anyone else has done this and would like to be very kind hearted and let me know their system.

And yes to all you others out there if i do recieve something or if we work out are own system I'm sure I can post it here for everyone to see and use.

Many thanks if you can help

First of all.

Welcome to the Forum!

Standardization is essential if you want to spend your time on design and not reinventing the wheel all the time. So hats off to you for doing that.

First you will want to form a core group of people to develop the standards and divide up the work accordingly.

Start a Solo Project and create some stories so you have a starting point.

Next develop legends etc. to have items to opt+click on for fast drawing and these can then be used for notation on the drawings to reduce keynoting and errors that come with keynoting.

The file or files you create can be saved as a template file and used to start all subsequent projects from there on. All the settings will be the same for each new project.

There are too many variables and options to list here, plus you will have your own way of doing projects, so I suggest developing a strategy within your office to get started.

Good luck!

Excellent moniker!

To elaborate on Tom's advice, only slightly, [pay attention t o him, he's on top of this program], your favorites palette can become your new best friend for alt+click alternative. With the favorite tab at the top of virtually every tool palette now the ability to set up almost everything you commonly use in one place is for me very valuable. [although I work alone, standards are still mandatory] Mine is hot keyed for quick "hide and seek". It's a great place to start your standards set-up, work with it and adjust/edit things as you need.

It's a big task setting yourself up, let alone many. Be patient with yourself and your crew. If it gets ugly send for help, Link Ellis / link@archilink.net / http://www.archilink.net. This fellow came and connected many dots for me. Basically took me from a user to productive.
