pablo scapi
Hello i´m here again. Yesterday i was so tired after looking in the forum befor ask, that i fogot some things: Budget: hope no more than 2.000, but if something definitly deserves an extra ...well, i guess i coul reach the 2.500 U$ I´m building the machine from 0, so will need everything, some components i have allready choosen. Nvidia quadro 1000, HDD SATA 200GB. So i would need more advise in things like Mobo, (label, model, etc.) CPU, i want them to bee Opteron, but don´t really understand the diference between them. And the last thing, i need the machine for the next couple of weeks. Think thats all. BTW i appologize for the no so good english, hope you couls understand me. Pablo. Beno
my config is following Dual Opteron 246 MSI K8T 2 Registered Kingston 4GB RAM, PC2100, 266MHz (4x1GB) ATI Radeon 9200 128MB 40GB IDE HD 52X CD ROM no mouse, no keyboard, no floppy XP PRO installed Price: USD 2,900 It's my render box, hence a weak video card, small HD and no mouse and the rest. It works like a charm and on real world benchmarks, it outrenders the crap out of a dual Xeon 3.2 Ghz. My platform is MAX 6 with finalRender Stage 1. I'm getting another machine with same specs in 3 days. hope that helps Beno
Eric
Beno, out of curiosity, why would you build a machine like that, and then not use it as your workstation? Do you have something even faster for modeling and production work? Eric

Eric
Beno, what kind of wattage requirement does the dual Opteron configuration you listed (your rendering box, not the workstation) require? I'm extremely interested in building a system similar to yours, and am in the process of pricing everything. Thanks Eric

Thanks Eric My box has a 400 W PS on it but it could be even lower since there isn't much load on it. Better to have it slightly higher than required though, that can't hurt.
