Point Cloud to Mesh Software Help

Hi

 

Can anyone recomend software that coverts Point Cloud information to a solid mesh? I've seen a number after a quick google search, but I'm very new to this and a little in the dark. I'd hate to spend a bucket load of cash on below par software.

 

Whats the best software, whats the best value for money - any sort of information to light my way would be gratefully recieved.

If you use 3DS Max you could try this - http://labs.autodesk.com/utilities/3dsmax_pointcloud/

Hi Craig - thanks for the reply. I have this installed - but it was my understanding that this allows you to render it out using Mental Ray. I was after a program that would convert the point cloud into a mesh so I can render out in VRay. I have seen the open source software from MeshLabs and a few other commercial versions, I'm just hesitant without a few recomendations.

Hi Andy,

I use VRMesh studio but would recommend trying meshlab before parting with any cash on other software.

thanks for the advice - do you need the whole VRMesh studio or could you get away with VRMesh Reverse? I'm going to try the meshlab software first - just have to persuade our IT dept to allow me to dowload and install it!!

If you don't need to edit the point cloud in any way then VRMesh Reverse will do what you need.

cheers David - thanks for the advice. Shouldn't be altering the point cloud data at all, so sounds like VRMesh Reverse would be the way to go.
