BVI
Hey Guys, I wanted to get your input on this. I recently met with a potential client. They had interviewed another 3D person in our local industry. When this person heard that he also intended on meeting with us, he apparently had a lot of really nasty things to say about my company. I don't know this guy personally, but I have liased with him over email and offered him advice and encouragment. The client didn't appreciate the way in which this guy had bad mouthed a competitor. How should I deal with this particular person? Nic
STRAT
do nothing. he has every right to bad mouth whoever he wants. people wont appreciate him one way or another. unless he's publically written or said something defamatory against your firm which is wrong, or made allegations he cant substantiate there's not much you can do about it. it happens. just ignore it. notamondayfan
Just sounds like he's bad mouthing you to make him self look good. I would waste my time worrying to be honest. He's only gonna damage his own reputation in the end.
jinsley
I'm with Stephen... unless something is written or recorded in some other way, do nothing. Most of those guys weed themselves out of the competition.

neil poppleton
Definetely ignore it, do not stoop to his low level. Keep your dignity. The client obviously was not impressed and no other normal person would be, its not how you do business.
Iain Denby
Most decent people view bad mouthing as very unprofessional and a very cheap way of trying elevate themselves. Ignore it...then, when you've got the job, send him a copy of the finished image together with a V sign! (just kidding)
Crazy Homeless Guy
Is his work any good, or is he just talking crap? I find that most people that talk crap and self boast are really just in defensive mode because they know their work is inferior, or they have an inferiority complex. Hopefully your client realizes this, and will choose based on what was actually presented to them both in terms of quality, price, and their individual wants and needs. Like others have said, I would just ignore it for now. I doubt the idiot would admit it anyway.
Shane Gee
HI Firstly are you sure it is bad mouthing, I have been asked by clients to promote our company against another company. Secondly do you trust the client, I have heard bad things from two potential clients about you, but as the conversation went on they were just after a better rate and trying to manipulate me- so dismissed there comments. Thirdly I have heard other 3d companies in SA bad mouth you but the guys I was speaking to were small one man operations- jealous -- so should not take any notice of them. And you should not take notice of anyone who gossips--leave that for the soap operas. Anytime you get a bit of time in the sun somebody else is always having a go to knock you down.. As long as you are confident of your work and your clients are happy no need to worry.
wasteland giant
You got a website with some really great looking images. Shouldn't the work speak for itself? I wouldn't worry about it too much.
mskin
i think most are turned off by sales pitches that denounce the competition. i almost consider it a non starter, if you bad mouth your competition than your out. the only place this is not practical is with pavers and asphalt contractors, who all apparently bad mouth competition. the statement they are making is that they cant get the job on their own merit, so they need to bash. i think everyone agrees, so consider yourself one up on the guy. You and I both have resources that we provide on our sites freely in order to give something back to the local guys and we sort of expect them to play nice. We did get the job, so the client obviously didn't appreciate his comments.
