Rendering Speed - Helios32

I'm currently working with software 3D Home Architect Deluxe Design Suite Version 6 which its 3DTrueView rendering technology is powered by Helios32 Version 5.00(latest)

 

Have anyone worked with this software ????

 

When i try to render scenes with polygons within the range of 20000-40000 it really takes a lot of time. (2-3 hours)

 

My PC System is 3.4C pentium4 Hyperthreading, 1 GB PC3200 RAM, 2 x S-ATA Raid0 WD Raptor and ASUS Radeon 9800XT 256MB Graphic Card.

 

I will really appreciate your opinion on upgrading my system.

 

I'm thinking of create a Dual Xeon 3GHz system.Will they help reducing rendering times?

 

Will it be faster ?

I don´t know much about the program you´re using, you should check if it takes fulll advantage of the Hyper Threading capability on your processor.

Sure if you upgrade your machine it will render faster, but try to set your scene so you maintain the minimum amount of effects and polys so your scenes render faster.

Always a good tip, if you have two machines, set your scene in the old one and render it in the new one. If you get a faster machine, most probably your scenes are gonna get heavier.

What was the resolution of that 3hr rendering?

 

You have a pretty nice setup. If I were you I would look at different software. For the price of more upgrades you could probably afford a more professional software package like VIZ 2005 ($1800).

 

This is of course coming from someone with limited experience- mainly MAX/VIZ. I'm not sure what your software offers, I'm sure it has pros/cons. I was actually looking at that software in BestBuy the other day. Seems like it had a lot of features.

 

I just rendered a scene with over 64,000 faces that included global illumination and raytraced glass on a HT 3ghz with 512mb RAM. It took just under 6 mins for a 800x600 image. I've rendered images with 4 million faces (water fountain) in under 20 minutes with a resolution of 1200x900.

 

You could get a 30 day demo and see how things compare-

 

It would be interesting if you could post a DWG version so I could

compare rendering times between software....with a slower machine.

The scene did not have a specified resolution. It renders the current scene as viewed on the monitor (viewsonic VP-201S 20.1" LCD)

 

I really like this software because you can build a house ( 2 floors) with excellent material collection and design your garden or surrounding landscape in a matter of less than 40 minutes.

 

It renders very nice (except the antialising which is one of its weak points - even when setting antialising at 4x you can see jacked lines) but it takes a lot of time when the scene has lots of polys.

 

As far as you tell me 20-40.000 polys are not so many for a respectable renderer !!!

 

I will try the VIZ 2005 you suggest.

 

Another good thing is that the 3D Home Architect exports into .dxf and .3ds files but with only one level.

 

If i export the house into .dxf format in AutoCAD it renders everything in one material so i have to assign materials from the beginning!

 

How can i post in dwg version as you requested ?

I thought it might come down to modeling efficiency. 40 mins is impressive.

For me I need to have radiosity and the ability to do very custom shapes.

I like it when people think its a photo...

 

You can export a dxf or a 3ds if you would like- VIZ can handle those files as well. Texturing it probably wont happen though, as you said importing can become a nightmare if it isnt properly set up. I'll see how it renders with a radiosity solution though....
