Modeling Clay tiles for a turret Roof?

I am currently trying to come up with a solution for modeling Clay tiles for a Turret roof I have tried Displacement and it works great for the Straight parts of the roof, so does Geometry for that matter. The problem is the turret ends. I have had mixed results with using both of the above mentioned techniques. Just wanted to reach out and see if anyone had dealt with this before and pick their brain on any suggested techniques or ideas. 2d displacement in VRay, although fast, falls apart due to the curve. 3d Displacement works but is just slow.

thanks

Hi Matt,

For the curved portion of the roof, you may need to actually build a straight array of tiles, group them and use the bend modifier arc them around.

But then the tiles will be smaller at the tighter end of the curve. I think its easy enough to create a 1st vertical course and then copy/array around one course at a time. Unless you have lots of buildings to do and are looking for an automated solution. Sometimes the search for an automated solution takes longer than the 'just do it' method.
