gkanz
Hello Folks. To finish off my title discription let me first tell you what I'm doing. I have this piece of clothing ( a Shirt ) in its mesh form and I want to prepare it for adding bones in Poser. In Poser there's a "Grouping Tool" that will let you select polygons and group them with a name ( hip, chest, lThigh.....etc,etc..). Although it does what it should it does have its limitations. I'm wondering if there's a way to do that in 3dmax. I've just began trying out a method where I'd select a group and then go into the Material Editor and give the group a different color and then "Hide" those selected polygons and then go and begin another group. Is this the way it's done? The thing is I'd like these groups to have the names of the bones ( hip, chest, etc....) when I export it out as an .obj. Hope you understand what I'm looking to do here. Appreciate any help. Thank You. P. gk
-MerlyN-
The color would be purely visiual. I dont know Poser, so I dont know if this will be of any help to you, but try this: Go into polygon subobject level, select the polys you want for any group and hit Detach. You can detach them as an element of the same object, as a clone into a new object or entirely to a new object. When doing the latter, make sure you delete the object, once you have detached all elements. Empty objects can sometimes lead to problems in Max... gkanz
Thank You Ms. MerylN, I will definitly try that. It definitly sounds like the way to go. Really appreciate your help with this. PS: Yeah, the color changes was NOT the way to go. Desperation makes people do strange things like that. Thanx, again. Peace. gk Edited October 10, 2010 by gkanz
