carlotristan3d
At sub-object level, is there a way to randomly select polygons. I'm trying to trim down the leaves on my 3d trees for an autmn scene. Paint select region does not do the trick. thanks.
Dave Buckley
there is a way using the graphite tools, in fact you have a number of different ways, you can randomly select based on what you are looking at in perspective/camera view, or you can randomly select in general. select the editable poly object go to poly mode deselect any that may be selected go to the selection tab on the ribbon then have a play with all the different methods you should have different panels 'by normal' 'by perspective' 'by random' etc etc should do the trick

Fooch
You can use scripts to random select stuff. http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/random-select-v1-
postite
Hi, I suggest using the modifier "material by element" in poly. You can check the random distribution option, with X different material.
