The problem is; starting from the same scene and lightning data, the results in both Viz 2005 and Lightscape are not the same We are using the architectural materials in Viz and the proper materials from lightscape...could it be the problem? abicalho Posted July 6, 2004 Share Posted July 6, 2004 I should write this on my website so I do not have to repeat it every 2 weeks on different forums. Lightscape uses a Progressive Refinement Monte Carlo Radiosity engine. MAX and VIZ use a Stochastic Relaxation Radiosity engine. They are different, they work differently, but they should produce the same exact result when testing against the same exact conditions. I'm a QE for 3dsmax and Autodesk VIZ and I am the one who tested the Radiosity engine since VIZ 4, and I test the quality of the output against Lightscape and yes, they both output the same exact results, especially now with the Arch Material. Make sure you have: - Enough Meshing to at least match lightscape's - No Ambient Light - No Standard Lights (only Photometrics) - Process Initial Quality at least up to 98% And you should get very similar results in both applications. When using Daylight, each software uses a different method, so you won't be able to compare both, unless you do not use Windows and Openings in Lightscape, forcing it to gather the sky directly.
