Alyosha
Hello, I have this idea of making a surface reflective, but in a way that reflection would stick to certain color. For example, i have a plane with 100% reflectivity, which reflects blue sky and clouds as blue sky and clouds. I want it to reflect sky as dark grey, not blue though - now here is the problem; when i use "reflection color" other than merely whites and blacks it works OK, but how on earth do I convince it to use GREY as reflection color, since it only uses greys to determine intensity of the reflection, but doesnt actually add grey color to it as it would if one chose saturated violet for example. Or, how do I obtain desaturated, dark grey reflection? any thoughts?
Camby1298
If your scene is as simple as you describe, than use 2 different sky domes. One will be fully colored, the other will be desaturated as you want to appear. The fully colored Sky Object Properties, will be visible to camera, but not visible to reflection/refraction. Whereas the desaturated sky Object properties can be non-visible to camera, but visible to reflection/refraction
Alyosha
hey, yeah i thought of that but i just want the desaturated reflections on one element in the scene, on the rest it should reflect normally, otherwise i'd just use bw map in reflection slot of the environment rollout, i dont use domes anyway i use the environment slots i thought about creating a sky object/dome just for this particular reflection, but i cant turn off the normal environment slot reflections anyway, so i am looking for a more elegant, material-based solution basically i have these grey photovoltaics which i want them to have this clearly defined shine and reflection, but i want it to remain grey, not reflect sky as blue but only reflect it's high and low values basically
CliveG
Just a thought.... anything you can do with a VrayOverrideMtl? Obviously you can allocate completely different materials for reflectance or refractance than the base material. I don't know if this can be used in the Dome light slot but it could certainly be used for your reflecting material. CG
Alyosha
yes but override mat is a generator, i am looking for a solution on the reciveing end (the affected mat)
Stephen Thomas
How about using the environment slot in the material?
Alyosha
that sounds promising stef!! thanks for the idea, i'll try it out later and let you know how it worked!
Ismael
This should help if understood and applied... http://www.neilblevins.com/cg_education/metal_and_refs/metal_and_refs.htm
aristocratic3d
Gray sky map can be used in environment slot and that will work for sure. However it may seems fake.
