Scale in 3dsMax can be pretty tricky.. Scale has a memory.

 

Lets pretend you have an object of 10 units, and you scale it 50%, you have an object of 5 units = NOT

You do have an object of 10 onits scaled down 50%. Max remembers the original object size. You will have some issues with UVW maps as well.

In order to apply modifiers propreley on scale objects, you need to RESET XFORM. This will clear 3dsMax memory for this object, and consider it as an object of 5 units in our case, and after that, you can apply some modifiers.
