gdamaso88
I'm in the process of testing a quadro fx 4800 and I was looking to see where I should be looking for performance increases. We currently are on ati firegl v5600's. Other than the OpenCL/ GPU rendering capability, are there other things that I should be looking for? Also, is there a specific way I need to configure it for 3ds max to take advantage of it's abilities?
Christiansltd
I was looking at the fx 4800 and the newer fx 4000 bu after trying decided to go for the fire pro v7800 at roughly half he price of the fx 4000 I think it's a steal and am really happy with the performance
gdamaso88
what programs are you using? and where should I notice differences i.e. viewport display performance?
neil poppleton
I remember the latest 3d world mag. tested graphics cards.
AJLynn
If this is for Max and you're not interested in CUDA/OpenCL, what you're looking at is viewport performance - moving around the viewports, hitting the play button to preview animation, etc., should be sped up by using a better video card (and that Quadro should be better than that FireGL, being higher in the line and I think newer as well). Make sure you install the full software package and Max is set to use Maxtreme (or Performance Driver or whatever the heck they call it now). If this is about buying new cards, +1 to what Christian said - the FX 4800 is a previous generation, a newer model FirePro will be a better choice for those who don't need CUDA.
