pashiamas
Dear all, I'm a complete newbie in this field. Just started experimenting with some building projects of my father (he is a land developer). Just took the drawings and start creating. Will really appreciate your opinion of the quality of the attached files. The whole project was created in less than one hour and rendering took (with middle quality and 4x Antialising) around 40 minutes = total less than 2 hours. I'm wondering if this kind of quality is acceptable from the CG World. Program used: 3D Home Architect 6 Design Suite Deluxe. I'm highly interested to begin modelling with 3D Studio but seems too complex. Every start is a difficult one !!! Looking forward to your replies. STRAT
nice start. better than most complete nube's efforts indeed i'd keep going if i were you the way you are. just keep learning and plugging away. it'll all get better and faster. my only real crit so far on the images is that the lighting needs a bit more work, and the materials definately need work. they look tiled and standard at the mo. you also seem to have a floating couch in the room this 3D Home Architect 6 Design Suite Deluxe looks pretty nifty. these renders were rendered in this? can you give us a low down on some of it's modelling and rendering capabilites, only for a 100 dollars or so it sounds a bargin. pashiamas
Thank you STRAT for your prompt reply and your good words ! I fully agree with you about the lighting subject - but again this in only the beginning. Can you be more specific about the materials? remember .... i'm a newbie !!!! Yes the rendering was indeed made from the 3DHA6. And the quality was set to medium. As far as modelling concern ... it is a charm ... really easy and quick.I love it. I wanna use 3D Studio Max 6 but as far as i notice to get even this level of work (complete desing and rendering) will take A LOT of try. I wish it was so much easy in modelling as 3DHA but with the excellent rendering power of 3D Studio. But again .... this is earth and not heaven !! Looking forward hearing from you. Thanking you once more.
Tom Hamelrijckx
Throw yourself in it! It took me more time wondering how complex 3D Max was, than it actually took to learn. I haven't even read one single book; The help and tutorial files are very usefull. Once you've put a little time in it, you won't even be able to stop... pashiamas
MAZINGER What kind of 3d work are you using 3D Studio for and what version are you using? I have both 3D Studio Max 5 and 3D studio Max 6 and i already ordered and receive 1 week ago around 6 books from Amazon to learn using them. Hope this will go well because i enjoy reading about this staff. I will mostly use 3D Studio for Architectural 3D Modelling and only thinking about it is scary ! Can you post some of your works if possible? I will really appreciate it.
pashiamas
Just curious, Do you all import architectural drawings into 3DS (dxf, dwg etc.) and after you start assinging materials, physics and in general using the advance features of 3D Studio to achive such perfect results ? Or do you start from scratch in 3DS>? In this case is the whole design architect based or you just using circles, squares, modifiers etc?
STRAT
personally i do 99% of my modelling in CAD (ie, AutoCAD) and import the model via .3DS format into either Viz or C4D to do the finished visuals.
pashiamas
A lot of people here use Photoshop in a stage of there work until the final project. What kind of tools are usefull in Photoshop for Architectural work? Filters, brightness, shadows etc ? I have photoshop 7 but i only use it to fix some of my pics from my digital camera ! pashiamas
Can you please answer me this ? 3D Home Architect can export either to dxf or 3ds format. 3ds format is not working correct as 3D Studio Max 6 cannot import it. It gives " Improper File Format". I import the dxf into Microstation 2004 and it works but everything comes out in one Layer. If i save as dxf from Microstation then 3D Studio imports it but everything again is one Layer so every material change apply to whole project. If i assign layers for each element separately in Microstation ( walls, windows, doors etc.) will 3D Studio import it with different layers so that i can assign material to each element respectively? In this way i can take advantage of the excellent rendering power of 3D Studio. Do you think this is possible ?
STRAT
what happens when you export straight from 3d home architect as a DXF and put that into max?
pashiamas
It import it but everything seems to be in one layer. If i try to apply a material it applies to the whole project. I cannot select separate elements to apply material like doors, windows etc. Everything is one "body".
STRAT
funny why max 6 wont accept a .3DS file. in that case the best option is to import into micro station and sort it out from there. alternatively, learn how to model in max
pashiamas
Tried already but seems a bit too complex. Of course this is just my first steps in 3d studio The difficult thing is that in Microstation everything comes in wireframe form so to pick up a window (which is just a click in 3D Home Architect) i have to pick up maybe 10 or 15 lines (depends on the complexity of the window) So imagine what kind of work has to be done to separate each element into separate level in a whole house project!!! But again nothing seem to be "easy" in CGI world right ?? Thank you STRAT for your attention.
STRAT
nope. nothing is easy unless you know it of course but if ur serious about getting into this biz i'd seriously advise a more main stream modeller or renderer. it'll make your life easier and make cross program transfer much easier too. definately worth learning. learning the basics is fast and easy, once you done that just expand slowely at ur own pace from there. i mean, you learned 3d home architect didn't you? if you want an easy solution to learn, which is pretty good at getting 3d models up and running, look into Sketchup. this proggy id amazing, and is eeeeeeaaaasssyyyyy to learn! pashiamas
I know that is not easy. As far as 3D Studio conserns ........ well as i mentioned before i just received 3 books from Amazon referring to this great software ! ( 3D Studio Max 6 Bible, 3D Studio Max 6 Killer Tips, Light and Rendering) Whowa !! We are talking of totally around 2500 pages to feed!! No problem ......... I like reading and experimenting since i have the software. Thank you very much for the recommendation. I will check out for this Sketchup. dmedraft
That's pretty amazing. 3D Home Architect 6 Design Suite Deluxe is available for $80.00 after a $20.00 rebate!! Can you import dxf or 3ds models into 3D Home architect or do you have to draw from scratch?
Tony
Am I Seeing things or does that program have a GI engine? For $100.00 and a new user its really quite good! It would be interesting to see what could be done with an experienced user at the controls. Tony
