raymarcher
I have imported a model from autocad that is difficult to cleanup, see the screenshot attached, I have double faces and flipped normals. With xview i can highlight what needs to be flipped with face orientation, but I can't transfer the highlighted faces to a sub selection. postite
Hi, First, weld all vertices. Then transform your mesh in poly edit (faster for rendering) I would simply use a 2 sided mat. It will do the job.
JonRashid
Have you tried unifying the faces?
postite
You could try this script: http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/unify-flip-normal-polygons
raymarcher
I tried that all before, if you have the time, here is a sample from the terrain, with xview you can highlight the disoriented faces, good luck http://rapidshare.com/#!download|706tl4|431374730|face_orientation.max|2224 (2011) Edited November 17, 2010 by raymarcher
postite
Heu... I do not have any problem rendering it... Simply Arch & Design material with Back Face Cullin unticked.
raymarcher
Bonjour postite, I should have explained it better. I want to add a turbosmooth or a simple smooth modifier with it, for that you need welding, and for welding you need to have an uniform face orientation. greetings from belgium Edited November 17, 2010 by raymarcher
postite
Salut raymarcher Your mesh was really stinky!! I used a topography software to re-generate a new proper mesh. Little gift from Liège: http://www.burningnote.be/ftp/03_ok.max Hope it helps Edited November 17, 2010 by postite

postite
I did not clean the mesh but re-generate it. I imported your mesh in Mensura Genius 2008 to generate a 3D mesh based on the existing vertices then export in dwg.
raymarcher
Hello postite, I have mensura at my disposal but am not expierenced, could you explain step by step how you converted the model from max to mensura so I can get this quickly done? postite
Here is my detailed workflow: Do a "Create shape" in poly edit mode with all edges selected sothat you have a spline network.Delete the old mesh and export the spline network in *.dwgOpen Mensura/ New projectLink a dwg (the one just created before)Module/ Land (new window opens)Open the layer manager and with the green arrow import all layers from your dwg to this projectLand/ Create land (or something like that) (popup appears)Click "OK" (popup closes)Right-click in the scene (contextual menu appears) click "All"Then push "Enter" on your keyboard and it's doneFile/ Export to dwgImport in max
