Crazy Homeless Guy
Can someone recommend a method in AfterEffects to do a color correction based on a Z-Depth map? I have a Z-Depth, and I want to tint the darker areas of the Z-Depth image a very slight blue/white, but I can’t seem to locate the proper effect to create this look. Nils Norgren
Hey Travis, There are probably many ways to do this, but the first way that comes to mind for me is to use it as a color layer, tint the z-depth channel whatever color you want your atmosphere, and use a transfer mode (I prefer "Add") and dial back the transparency. You can also throw a curves on the atmosphere to affect the falloff/color/general personality. Depending on the zdepth you might have to invert first, depending on your transfer mode and what you are going for you might have to play around with the curves to get desired results. Hope this helps, -Nils
Fooch
hi Travis. You can try this as well. Lay it out this way: Z Depth ADJUSTMENT LAYER Beauty COMP (Or everything for the beauty below this) Precomp the zdepth pass. I'm basically making the zdepth pass to a regular alpha pass. Invert it inside the precomp and perhaps add a gausian blur to it. (Zdepth edges are not antialiased so to make it blurry where the colour ends, you might have to blur it) Levels it a little to control where the dark / light bits are. Then in the ADJUSTMENT LAYER, give a tint / curve or anything else that would make your effect work in the whole image. Set it to use the Luma key of the Zdepth comp. Adjust the levels of the Zdepth comp to control the effects of the blur tint.
