Graham Nixon
lo all, me again, well the renderer thread seems to have excited quite a few of you, thanks to all that replied, here's another question. what's your favourite way to cut windows in 3ds max and why??? pointers to tutorials on this subject would be much appreciated. cheers graham
chuck
hey graham, the easiest way i have found is to create an AEC wall, then link the window to it. it will automatically cut out a hole in the wall for you. it also auto updates when you move the window or change its size. hope this helps, chuck
3dp
with max the window door plugins (size to suit) run a script i have had for years that runs a auto boolean with a mesh object (wall) etc when things get heavy with windows same script but it creates a box and i''l collaspe the m all together then boolean adt as the manuals althogh i don't really get on with it for freestyle work and of course i'll make my own door window combos from scratch as needed there is no quick fix
STRAT
i model with faces in AutoCAD. even though i'm max modelling proficient, and do model organic models in max, i find CAD infinately more accurate, cleaner and controlable/predictable.
Gabriella_A
Here you can find a modeling (and lighting...) tutorial on making a simple room with doors and windows in max... http://www.evermotion.org/tutorials/mich/ and perhaps someone will explain me how to do that kind of holes in a polymesh... because I can't make that model... when I quikslice an extruded face and delete the unwanted faces I always obtain a strange mesh...with lot of faces lost... It uses polymodeling, but in a different way that smoke3d in his CGtutorial does. Bye GabrY
trhoads
Like STRAT I do all of my moeling in AutoCAD, but with solids. I don't like faces, VIZ 3i, doesnt like 'em either. AutoCAD can be much more accurate, and I have a large library of sizes from all projects.
Graham Nixon
Hmmm, Gabriella, above, gave me a link to a tutorial about making an interior, it looks really good, but i can't do it, neither can Gabriella. Could one of you experts take a look at it and explain whats going on??? PLEASE... It seems to almost answer every question about interior modeling, it's just idecipherable, thats all.
