Ernest Burden III
While looking for info on converting a Microsft Flight Simulator model (for another forum member), I found this interesting page with 3D cloud video demonstration. It looks right for 'tips and techniques' to me. While most renderings do not require this level of 3D clouds, it's nice to have an idea about how they can be done. 3D clouds cast shadows, and could be animated. They can also be 'pre-rendered' to make your own backdrops.
bigcahunak
Sounds interesting, not that I dont have enough to read already, but since its a WMV... downloading...
Ernest Burden III
Sounds interesting, not that I dont have enough to read already... There's only minimal reading, I assure you. The voice-over on the clip sounds like she could use some practice...not too professional.
akropol2000
That was very interesting ... Although it doesn't tell you what type of script are they using .... etc. Not detailed info ... But I like the game and their clouds ... nice work. Most of the time if i need to create animated 3d sky i usually combine a bunch of layers of different things: pre rendered clouds ... gradients... fogs... lights(prerendered lights), and different layers of gizmos filled with volume fog with different noise and turbulence properties. Of course it quadruples the rendering time .... But it can be very realistic ... and everything is animatable ... including the changes inside the gizmos that creates a look of moving/changing clouds ... It is very interesting subject to talk about.
