Alyosha
Hey, i got a dwg from client where they have included a topographical map of the area in terms of splines I wonder what would be the best approach to convert this into a polygon mesh, i attempted converting into NURBS and continuing from there but (probably due to insane number of vertices ont he splines) it just froze max a couple of times. Is there a way to optimize this? Or any other way to approach this problem without having to model mesh manually?
maciejwypych
Did you try to create a terrain object with you splines or it crashes as well?
Stephen Thomas
If the splines are at their correct heights then make sure they are all attached as a single object and create a terrain object. You can find it under Create>Compound. If the drawing is flat then you will have to move them manually to the correct heights before performing this step. If the number of vertices in the splines is causing a problem then add a Normalize Spline modifier first to control the number of verts.
