carlangas
Hi all, Just wanted to see if any of you are using SSD on your workstations and how happy you are using them. I am looking to replace my single mechanical 7200 rpm drive on my main computer. I use this machine to pretty much do all my work, PS, MAX, ACAD. With the SSD drives being pricy and all I'm not sure it is worth it to spend the extra cash on a 120gb SSD, I would be using the SSD for my applications and keep the mechanical for storage. JonRashid
I use one for my main drive. Windows and all my software reside on it. Everything else datawise is on a standard drive. Windows boot up and software launches are considerably faster and I havn't had to spend a fortune on one of the lage ssd's.
carlangas
Hi Jon, I'm interested in knowing if the SSD makes working with max/vray any faster, do you use any of these by any chance?
Jeff Mottle
Hell ya! I use SSDs on my workstation (2x 128GB RAID1) and my laptops and it's like night and day compared to a mechanical drive. I have a non-unibody Mac book pro which originally had a mechanical drive and I pulled it out and put in an SSD. It was like I had a new machine again. Keep in mind that it does not speed up rendering, it just improves boot time, time to launch applications and open files. I would not recommend using them for storage which you will be accessing frequently though as the speed will deteriorate over time. For OS drives though I would never go back again. Worth every penny IMHO.
JonRashid
I agree. It only really affects my software launch speed but that is well worth it.
