Anthony Janigian
We are experiencing issues with distributed Rendering and Centrally located materials: Here is a detail of the issue we are facing with distributed rendering via Vray and 3DS Max. Host stations: Window 7 64 Bit 8GB - 16GBRAM Quadro 1800 Cards Logged in with Staff user account (non Admin) 3DSMAXDesign 2010 SP1 with all current Hotfixes Vray 1.5 (with Current .xml file) and Vray 1.5 RT (with Current .xml file) Slave Station: Window 7 64 Bit 8GB - 16GB RAM Quadro 1800 Video Card Logged in with account with local admin rights. 3DSMAXDesign 2010 SP1 with all current Hotfixes Vray 1.5 and Vray 1.5 RT (with Current .xml file) Issue: Host station assigns materials to 3DSMAXDesign2010 model that are located on a shared drive on central file server. Slave is added to distributed rendering. Slave has Spawner started with admin rights. Host starts rendering, but any bucked that the slave is responsible will not pick up the centrally located Materials. If the host is logged in with an admin account and runs the same job, the slave buckets work correctly. I notice that Vray RT works differently…. In that the Vray Render server can be started with non admin rights on a Windows 7 64 bit station and Vray Spawner has to be run under admin rights. IF I could get Spawner to run under non admin rights, I may be able to log into the Slave station with the same user credentials as the Host station and get it to see the Centrally located Material libraries. Anthony Janigian
Replying to my own thread! The solution is to use UNC paths for Materials instaed of Mapped drive paths. User is able to login with no admin rights open 3dsmax under their account and Slave station are able to find the materials. We also changed the Custom User paths for Materials and other centrally located items to allow general staff to not mistakenly marry materials to mapped drives. Works like a charm!
