Come in for a Chat...

Hi guys, I just wanted to gage some opinions on what I should do in the current situation I am in.

I have been invited to "come in for a chat" at a Visualisation practice which is really good news for me. I am trying to break in at junior level at the moment and this is a step in the right direction, although it has been leveled that there isn't a potential job just yet.

What I am trying to gage is how to approach this meeting? I am thinking of approaching it as an informal interview as you never know how far a good impression goes.

Is/has anyone been in the same situation before and if so is there any advice or pointers as to what to do?

Even if there isn't a job it is a very good opportunity for me to get into a studio and see the workings and speak to somebody so it is win win.

Thanks.

treat it as a formal interview.

be serious about the position even if it does not exist.

bring a hard copy portfolio .

they may tell you what to start learning ie new software techniques ect.

let them know your good to have around and up for anything.

Yup. Be positive and personable. Ask questions and show enthusiasm, but don't be fake!

I agree...don't underestimate the opportunity here by treating it informally. They may have framed the meeting as such, but go in there with a gameplan to hopefully exceed their expectations.

Put your best work in a nice bound portfolio and be ready to talk about it honestly. Use your images to showcase your artistic abilities while discussing your problem-solving skills. If your work has some weak areas (materials? lighting? etc.), avoid being defensive. If you acknowledge that, you will show them that you are honest, humble and willing to learn (team player).

Good luck, this sounds like a lucky break...

Thanks guys, all really good advice. I am just finalising my latest image this weekend as my newest piece so should be good. I Have my portfolio ready and thought about and will be going as if there is a job.

Like you said it could be a lucky break and its the only one I have at the moment!

I agree with everything that has been said...

don't forget that this is your chance to interview them as well. Take a look at the working conditions, the demeanor of the employees, etc...

Good luck! Lucky breaks are always welcome in the world of arch viz.
