Dual Core vs Quad Core

Hi all,

I currently have two computers....

A Laptop with a T9550 Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.66 ghz

A Desktop with a Q6600 Core 2 Quad @ 2.40 ghz

I travel quite a bit and having files in two different places is sometimes frustrating. However, I picked up the quad core when another one of our artists left because of the rendering speed. Compared to my old laptop it blew it out of the water. Now, with my newer T9550 laptop I do not know anymore....

Will the rendering speed differences be significant or comparable? If a close call, I would rather go with the laptop and a port replicator. If significant I would stick with the quad core.

I decided to be company minded :)

I reinstalled windows on the quad core with max and nothing else. We are putting it in our server room with backburner running so all can use it. I can always work on the rendering from my laptop and send to the computer remotely.

Hopefully, we can repair some of our other older computers and put 3-4 back there. Even though some are old I think 3-4 chugging along will help!
