new workstation - socket: single 1366, dual 1366, or wait for Sandy Bridge

Recommended Posts

I'm in need of a new personal workstation that I'll be using for Autocad, Rhino, 3Ds Max, Revit, Adobe, octane, light gaming (hl2-deatchmatch) and am trying to decide what platform to go with. I will definitely be overclocking and would appreciate input regarding what you all have heard about Intel's plans over the next few years. I hate buying parts that will be phasing out, and though current 1366 systems can handle six core i7's which could get me down the road quite a way, I don't want to be left out from a better (newer architecture, lower TDP, etc) socket that could eventually take 8 cores or more, use less power, and overclock better.

Any thoughts? Is Sandy Bridge worth waiting for or should I go for an i7 system similar to this:

GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

EVGA GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) SuperClocked 012-P3-1472-AR Video Card

Intel Xeon W3520 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Server Processor

ASUS P6X58D Premium ATX Intel Motherboard

Thanks.
