AEC objects to MAX

when AEC objects, such as windows are imported to MAX, the glass and frame are imported as the same objecct and therefore the same material. is there a way to export from Autocad Architecture so that these elements remain independent from one another?

You probably have this worked out by now. But you can put them on different layers before importing into Max or ensure they have different styles. They should come in separately with different materials applied
