aristocratic3d
Hi, Guys I have attachmed a render that took 12 min in my core i7 4GB RAM. my video card is "Gforce 9500 GT". Isn't it suitable for my machine? And viewport runs slowly when vertex count goes over some times even over .5 million. Please advice me what to do? Thanks Abdullah
CJI
We would need more information before we can really help you with your problem, for example render size, What rendering engine etc. I can tell you now even though i don't know the render size or engine that you likely havent optimsed your render settings and are likely wasting a lot of time unnecessarily on calculation and sampling. Even the lowest core i7 is very fast so you should have no problems with render times in general. With regards to your viewport speed your graphics card is adequate, it won't win any speed awards but it will do the job as long as your careful with your scene management which i would advise anyone to do as standard. Keeping your scene tidy, and in layers, hiding unneeded geometry makes all the difference here. We run Max 2009 on a GTX 250 and the viewport always runs slow after a while even on a low detail model, a quick reload fixes the issue. Must be a memory leak or the graphics card not clearing its cache or something. Not had time to fix this yet though. It could be something similar for you, try reloading the file. Also once the model starts to get quite large with lots of objects and polygons, isolating selections your working on makes things much easier. And when navigating turning off the wireframe (F4) in smooth+highlight mode works wonders for your redraw speed. (based on if your using 3ds max but the same principles should apply) Cheers CJ Edited January 6, 2011 by CJI
Alyosha
I agree with uddie, + when it comes to viewport and cards make sure you have set proper viewport shading solution, (i have problems enabling dx 11 for example so i run on dx 10). As for vray optimisation all i can say is it really requires render settings knowledge, i suggest going for a video training, there's a lot of really good ones out there specifically for vray, or a good book like francesco legrenzi's vray. Set up is usually scene dependable and theres just a lot of variations you need to take into consideration when optimising for every individual scene. If you don't take the engine seriously and learn about it properly it wont do you much good even if it's vray.
