I have a problem with dotted lines, first time it happens, im using AutoCAD 2004.

Heres the thing, imagine 2 vertical lines, theyre the same height, just separated, and now i draw a dotted line between them, for some reason the dots are like "centered" between the start and end of the dotted line, so always the first dot and the last one, are more separated than the rest of the dots, no matter the scale of the line, im gonna try to graphic this:

1- VERTICAL LINES:

l l

2- Create dotted line between them:

l . . . . . . . . . l

3- lets try to fix it scaling the dotted line:

l .................... l

See what I mean?...even if i scale down the dotted line, its always like "centered" between the start and end point of the line....why is that?..how to fix it?

Onslaught what Acad version are you using?

I cant do that, my dotted lines doesnt show like yours, im gonna try to upload a picture so you see what i mean.

Ok, in the screenshot i took you can see my problem, theres 2 scales of dotted lines, so you see it more in the small scale dots, I also add a reference dimension (and you see that ones bigger than the rest)

This is just a limitation of how Autocad defines and displays linetypes. A linetype definition specifies a pattern of dashes (or dots) and spaces that are sequentially repeated according to the scale of the linetype. Therefore the linetype scale determines how far apart your dots are. The limitation is because the length of the line usually wont be evenly divisible by the dot spacing distance (i.e. there is usually a portion of dot spacing "left over"). AutoCAD simply takes the left over portion of spacing and adds half of it to the start and half to the end of the line, resulting in the extra space you see. Similar behavior occurs for linetypes based on dashes, but the effect shows up in the dashes on either end of the line being shorter then all the others.

The only solution is to use the tweak the particular line's ltScale (via the chprop command) until the spacing length evenly divides into the length of the line.
