Alyosha
I've got this project the likes of which i never encountered before, it's like visualisation of some hundred KMs of highways. Project will consist of stills at certain landmarks like viaducts and bridges and whatnot and birds perspective animation part. I'm going for VRMLs of course and animation will also include ortophotographic data. I'm a bit inexperienced when it comes to modelling such distances though, has anyone done such or a similar project before and could give me some pointers? Anything i should pay particular attention to? Is it a good approach to combine 3d with some ortophoto or is it better to just use 3d for animation? dande
If your using Max Design 2011 and your on subscription install the Dynamite VSP plug-in. This will really help you. Where is your data coming from. Is it from Autodesk Civil, Bentley MX are AutoCAD ?

dande
Dynamite VSP will really help you. You can bring the road alignment and bridges in in as poly lines and then use these as the paths to create your roads and bridges. Have a look at the dynamite vsp tutorial on importing civil 3D. Even though your not using Civil 3D and civil 3D alignments the principal is the same. Also I would splint the project into numerous files and xref them together as you need them. The problem i find with this size of project is managing resources. If your rendering an image only bring in the part of the project that you need to speed up rendering time. I hope this helps.
