Jonathan
Hi Folks, Recently I've been thinking about archaeoligical visualisation as a possible avenue. Has anyone any experience/thoughts on this? If you consider that most of this feild's visual and informaton communication is dull and boring at best then it is easy to see the possible benefits from photorealistic images, animation and compositing. Even 'Time Team' (a UK archaeolgical tv series) is beginning to take up th mantle. I wonder if this could be the start of something beautiful? iwanp
There are a number of organisations already involved in this field. Northumbria University are involved in a number of projects, Glasgow School of Art's Digital Design Studio do work with Historic Scotland I believe. The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales are hosting a Digital Past conference in Feb http://www.rcahmw.gov.uk/ with a number of speakers involved in archeological visualisation as well as using laser scanning to document heritage sites. Hope this helps.
