Three D
Hi. Is it possible to crop a drawing in AutoCAD (2011), and that the command will automatically crop all the entities (blocks and all)? I don't think it is but I need to ask because I'm told this facility has existed in Microstation for some time now. Thanks.
neko
the answer is 'yes' if you are familiar with the concept of paperspace ?
Three D
thanks, i am familiar with paperspace but thats not what we're looking for. we have a big complicated drawing and we only want to issue a particular rectangular portion of it. nothing else. we'd like to do this without having to explode and trim blocks and other entities. unless i'm missing something paperspace only allows you to crop what is displayed in paperspace, i.e. other contents outside of the crop/viewport box could still exist. neko
okay - got it. if you print the drawing in paperspace as a PDF for example, then you would have a perfectly cropped view of your drawing which you could then convert back as autocad objects. maybe another solution would be to use the command FLATSHOT which basically flattens the current view as a new block which you could in turn edit and crop. i use FLATSHOT all the time for 3D views that i want to 'dumb down'. Frosty
XREF the file in and XCLIP it?
Three D
thanks neko. i'm 99% sure autocad cannot do what i've been asked for it to do. i know there are plenty of workarounds but i was curious if auotcad could do it simply. thanks again. GUSN
Have you tried using the x-clip command?
GUSN
Have you tried using the x-clip command? oops! sorry, I missed frosty's comment. But that does work well with large x-refs that you want to clip.
neko
i would have suggested XCLIP as well, but he said he doesn't want the rest of the drawing to actually be there once he's cropped it. FLATSHOT - i'm certain it would work and it is easy.
