Revit 3d to Autocad 2d and back?

Hello, not posted in a while. We were thinking of using Revit. We do a lot of collaboration with Architects that use 2d in AutoCad.

If we export a 2d AutoCad file from Revit, the architect makes changes to that 2d version, then we want to import it back into Revit, will Revit recognize the changes and update (even in 3d)?

It seems like the answer is no. We would need to import the architects 2d changes it into the Revit file, then make the 3d changes ourselves within Revit.

Thanks,

If your architect isn't working in Revit, then what is the point of using Revit? He needs to step up his game or get left behind.

The advantage of using Revit,or at least the goal of using Revit is that everyone involved is working in Revit, and that there changes are reflected in everyone's working model. This increases coordination, and helps resolve problems in the computer model before they become an issue in the real world therefore reducing errors in the job field.

If you are in the profession of visualization and illustration then I would not recommend going to Revit unless the architect is working in Revit. I see no benefit of constructing 2d AutoCad plans in Revit for visualization.

Thanks for the responses! And just to confirm i understand one of the major goals of revit, you'd have a file on a network drive that me (3d guy), the drafter and an architect would work on. It's like xref'ing from 3ds max to a 3d autocad file.

So man, imagine what it'd be like if we had sub contractors making changes! We'd have to draw all those then too.
