btallos
Hi, I have been setting up a couple different "Machines As a Service" in Backburner. Everything, is downloaded right. Ports, Firewalls, XML File. I created a log on/log off batch file. So, when the user logs off the service is running. And when the user logs on the service is stopped. Something like this - net start backburner_srv_200 - The script for the service to start when logged off. net stop backburner_srv_200 - The script for the service to stop when logged on. It's weird both of the scripts work, but when you check the Autodesk monitor after a couple minutes they turn off. Can anyone help me with this problem? I'd appreciate it. Crazy Homeless Guy
Honestly, I have yet to see someone really run a trouble free farm using Backburner as a service. I understand your desire to achieve efficiency, but I think you would have better luck looking at a dedicated account that launches Server with a LAN wake option turned on in the bios. There would still be more hoops to figure out in terms of how to set it up, but I think in the end you will have a more predictable and better controllable farm. btallos
Do you know a quick alternative for the machines to keep running and not turn on and off when I log out?
Crazy Homeless Guy
Nope. I still walk around and log machines in, though our technology group is working on a system where I can turn on my machines and and log in automatically. I just wanted to warn you about investing tons and tons of time in running it as a service. You can get it to work, but I haven't seen one without problems, and I haven't seen one that is easy to troubleshoot, and of course you can't look to see what your actual image is rendering. The physical log in is not as clean, but I know what is going on with the farm at any given time, and I can troubleshoot very easily.
