ok ok, you're right... I googled for maybe a minute and found the free beta 0.21 version. downloading now to check it out...

james..... what site did you pull the beta from? all I'm finding is a lot of sketchy looking file sharing sites with inconsistant sized download files, such that I'm not gonna risk the download.

did you find a safe one?

I sent a pm to Adriaan early, but I probably should have posted back here...

I found a zip which contained the 0.21 Beta version... and even though I'm pretty sure that it is the free version, it has been cracked.

It seems from reading some of the comments I found while looking, that even though it says "free", there is some sort of registration process which is a pain in the ass... so people removed the "locks" on it and reposted so you didn't have to call the creator to activate it because he was too hard to get a hold of.

I don't know if I will use it, I have not tried to install it yet... it seems a little sketchy, since it is a cracked "free" version of ghostTown 0.21 beta... not in the original state that the creator wanted it to be distributed as...

does that make sense? what are your feelings on this?

Thorsten, where are you seeing that...? Maybe its right in front of me somewhere, but I don't see any options to download any version at the original link you provided without registering and getting approved, etc...?

  • 5 months later...

meh, it was ok. In the end I found it to be quite buggy and after trying it on a few personal projects... I gave it up. i didn't get the results I thought I would, and reverted back to modeling closer context while relying on Greeble (http://www.greeblelicious.com/) + some decent texturing to mass up distant buildings...

The site is hard to navigate and I just didn't have time to investigate it anymore.
